An Investment in ELCA Congregations

Each year Trinity Lutheran College offers one qualified student from each synod in Region 1 a half-tuition Bishop’s Scholarship. Valued at up to $38,850, the Bishop’s Scholarship from Trinity recognizes solid academic performance in either high school or college and a demonstrated commitment to church and community.

Eligible students must:

• Be a member of a participating ELCA congregation
• Be granted full acceptance to Trinity
• Have a minimum high school/college accumulated GPA of 3.0
• Submit ACT/SAT score
• Demonstrate leadership in school, church and/or community
• Provide Bishop recommendation on how student will provide leadership to service, faith, chapel
• Submit an online application for the scholarship in the form of a short essay (minimum 250 words) about your leadership qualifications for this award and an interview
• Students must complete entire interview application process by March 1 to be considered.

Award Description

Amount: Up to 50% of tuition per year
Renewal: Renewable annually for up to three years. Recipient must maintain full-time status and minimum 3.0 GPA.
Number of scholarships: One scholarship per year for each participating synod.

This scholarship is not need-based. Therefore, any need-based financial aid may be added to this award to determine total funding available to the student.

Additional Important Details

One scholarship is available from each participating synod. Trinity Lutheran College and the Bishop’s office will jointly announce the scholarship award.
