Everett, WA – The Eagles are thrilled to announce that Everett Community College sophomore Phung Vuong has signed a letter of intent to compete in Cross-Country and Track and Field at Trinity Lutheran College beginning in the fall of 2013. A graduate of Seattle’s Roosevelt High School, Vuong will enroll at Trinity to study Informatics.
While training under Coach Koenigs at EvCC, Phung has consistently been among the team’s hardest workers and it shows in the results. During her time at Everett, Phung improved her 5,000m personal record from 23:46 to 22:25 – a whopping 81 seconds better than she had run in her prep career. She was also member of EvCC Women’s Cross Country teams that earned back to back NWAACC Titles (2011 and 2012) for the first time in any sport in school history; her 2012 women’s XC team was arguably the Nation’s #1 team at the JC level.
In Cross-Country, Phung’s best performance for the Trojans came at the Northern Region Championship where she finished 19th overall. On the track, Phung placed 2nd in the 5,000m race at the 2011 Club Northwest Spring Break Open and was a qualifier in the 10,000m for the NWAACC Track and Field Championship.
"We are just thrilled to keep Phung as a member of our distance running family. We’ve gotten to know her very well over the course of the last three years and she is exactly the kind of person we are looking for as we build this program. She has the work ethic both academically and athletically that we want and I know that she is going to continue to just be a joy to coach as she continues her journey with us at Trinity," said Koenigs.
