Service learning phone app for youth groups now available

May 29, 2013

The Service And Learning Leadership Team (SALLT) Project at Trinity Lutheran College has released a new smartphone application designed to facilitate meaningful service projects and mission trips with youth.  It is available as a free download for both iPhone and Android from www.sallt.org/store.

Features include:

  • Daily reflection journal to record service experiences
  • Photo capturing and sharing connected to social media sites
  • Photo slideshow for sharing experiences with others
  • Bible verses related to service, mission, and justice

In addition, a Leader’s Toolkit section includes:

  • List of reflection questions for processing group experiences
  • Ideas for creative reflection
  • Links to training videos
  • List of “what might go wrong” scenarios

Mark Jackson and David Ellingson, professors of Children, Youth & Family Studies, created the app for the SALLT Project, which Trinity launched in 2004 with a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans grant to develop youth leadership through service learning.  The ELCA Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod also contributed to the phone app project.
