Dr. Stephen Marshall-Ward joined Trinity Lutheran College in 2011 as Professor & Chair of Music. He is responsible for primary leadership of the Music Program. He teaches conducting, directs the Chamber Ensemble, is responsible for the Music Department's Symposium and Performance Series, oversees all senior projects, recitals and internships. Marhsall-Ward has studied church music, choral conducting, composition, and organ performance, and brings a combination of interests in music, spirituality, the arts and architectural design to the classroom. Dr. Norma Aamodt-Nelson

Dr. Norma Aamodt-Nelson

Norma Aamodt-Nelson currently serves as Minister of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church-Lynnwood. She teaches hymnology, organ, Aspects in Church Music, and has served as an internship supervisor at Trinity. Norma has served parishes in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Iowa, and has also served on the music faculties of Elmhurst College and Gustavus Adolphus College. Her degrees are from Pacific Lutheran University (BMus), the University of Iowa (MA), and the Graduate Theological Foundation/Oxford UK program (DSM). Read full biography.



Dr. Wanda Griffiths

Dr. Wanda R. Griffiths

Dr. Griffiths brings a rich background of church music direction, international performance, and higher education teaching experience to her classes. She holds a B.A. in Music Education and Organ Performance from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, an M.M. in Organ Performance from USC, and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Claremont Graduate University and also maintains a private studio where she teaches piano and organ. Michael Miller

Professor Miller combines his choral training and professional experience to conduct the Concert Choir. Students enjoy his professionalism, competence, and good sense of humor, evidenced by receiving the college’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011. In addition to teaching at Trinity, he serves as Director of Music Ministry at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Snohomish, and directs the Bainbridge Chorale. Joel Cummings

Joel Cummings

Tenor Joel Cummings has charmed audiences across the United States, on both the opera and concert stage, with his lyricism and beauty of tone. He studied with world renowned artists and teachers while completing a Master in Music in Vocal Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. As a voice instructor, he currently serves over 30 students at two colleges and his private voice studio.



Rich Hanson

Rich Hanson

Soon after receiving his B.A. in Music from the University of Washington, Rich Hanson began to put his skills to use in the community through private instruction, worship leading, and worship band coaching. In the position of worship pastor, Rich has helped plant three local churches in the past two decades. His passion for contemporary music and modern worship has led him to write and release his debut CD entitled Search No More in June of 2011.



Peggy Kurtz

Soprano Peggy Kurtz has been teaching private voice in the Everett area for over 25 years. She also serves on the board of the Puget Sound National Association of Teachers of Singing, where some of her students have won annual NATS adjudications. She has been a soloist with Orchestra Seattle/Seattle Chamber Singers, as well the Everett and Cascade Symphonies. Her Master of Music in vocal performance is from Pacific Lutheran University.



Karin Larsen

Karin Larsen

Karin Larsen began accompanying the Trinity Choir in 2006. She graduated from Trinity in 2009 with a Bachelor Degree in Music & Worship. For three and a half years, she served as Director of Children's Music & Arts at Our Savior's Lutheran Music Church of Everett. There she enjoyed teaching, developing worship arts curricula and composing music. She exercises her passion for teaching as an affiliate piano instructor at Trinity in addition to accompanying the Concert Choir.



Vicky Thomas

Vicky Thomas
Affiliate Faculty in Music (Global Music)

Professor Thomas has over 20 years of professional experience as a church music director, including her current appointment as Choral Director of Seattle First Baptist Church. Her interests also include global music, music from other faith traditions, global social justice issues, and earth ministry. In addition to undergraduate studies at Yale University, she holds an M.A. from the University of Washington.
