Biography: Norma Aamodt-Nelson currently serves as Minister of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church-Lynnwood where she administers a multi-faceted lay-led choral and instrumental program, coordinates a fine arts series, and serves as organist/choirmaster. For Trinity Lutheran College, she has taught hymnology, organ, Aspects in Church Music, and has served as an internship supervisor.
Prior to beginning her Seattle-area ministry in 2001, she served parishes in Tacoma, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Iowa, and has also served on the music faculties of Elmhurst College and Gustavus Adolphus College, as well as a teaching assistantship for the University of Iowa. Her degrees are from Pacific Lutheran University (BMus), the University of Iowa (MA), and the Graduate Theological Foundation/Oxford UK program (DSM). Mentors include Paul Manz, Delbert Disselhorst, Don V Moses, David Dahl, and Delores Bruch.
From 1994-2001 she served as Acquisitions Editor for Augsburg Fortress Publishers where she edited hymnals (With One Voice, Worship and Praise, LifeSongs) as well as the worship planning tool, Sundays and Seasons, and created the very-popular organ series, Augsburg Organ Library. She developed the keyboard and handbell catalogs, and has, since her move to the Seattle area in 2001 served in free-lance acquisitions for the company.
Active in a number of organizations, she was regional president for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, developed their placement service, and has planned a number of national and regional conferences. She has also served on the program committee and planning board for the American Guild of Organists, the Choristers Guild, and has served on the editorial committee for the AGEHR (handbell ringers). In addition, she maintains a private studio and is a church organ consultant.
